What happened: An Indiana couple saved a baby deer they found in the forest. The Indiana State DNR found out and told the couple they were going to euthanize the deer. The day that the baby deer was suppose to be euthanize the couple reported to the Indiana DNR that it escaped. That is when the DNR of Indiana State started the prosecution of the couple. If convicted of disobeying the DNR the couple could face 60 days in jail and $500 in fines.
I find this whole situation ludacris since I work in conservation. I thought all conservation officers were in the business of preserving rare and endangered species. I’m not sure how killing baby deer and throwing a compassionate couple in prison really fits into the whole conservation modo. It certainly doesn’t fit in my state. I’m not sure what is wrong with Indiana State Conservation Department.
Not everyone believes in conservation or protecting the environment. It is the conservation officer’s job to promote the protection of the environment. I can’t imagine a worse way of promotion than throwing a couple in jail over a kind deed. Its almost like the Indiana State DNR want to leave a bad taste in every conservative Republican’s mouth when it comes to protecting the environment. Its just a strange situation.
The gentleman in the couple is a police officer. He has arrested many people and even served on the SWAT team. If he was thrown into jail then he will probably be harmed by the inmates. I don’t see the equality in consequences. Throwing a policeman in jail for saving a baby deer = getting killed or maimed in jail. It doesn’t seem just to me. The lady in the couple is a nurse. She is the one who gives patients shots and helps the doctors with their duties. These are two very good members of soceity. To throw them in prison over a baby deer just seems ass backwards.
